2010-05-21 Speranza Boutique Open House, Oswego Minimize

In order to encourage shopping locally at independently owned businesses, the Kendall County Democratic Women (KCDW) hosted a Friday night free wine and cheese open house at Speranza Boutique, 25 W. Jefferson in Oswego.  The boutique, which features women's and girl's clothing, jewelry, and accessories, as well as antiques from Joanne’s Junque, offered a 20% discount on Speranza Boutique items during the event.  Guests enjoyed perusing the fun shop and stocked up on purses, summer sandals, natural soaps, and more.  Jane Bodine, of Oswego, won the big gift basket raffle, compliments of shop owner Laura Lackey.

Complimentary desserts and coffee, including iced mocha coffee, from local company LaheLahe Coffee, which features single origin roasted coffee beans, were served. Visit LaheLahe Coffee's website.

Henna artist Jenna Jade, Dragonfire Designs Henna, was on hand, and applied a variety of beautiful designs, which last up to two weeks, to the hands, arms, and legs of many guests.  Jenna either applied designs chosen from a catalog, or did custom work as requested.  Visit Dragonfire Designs FaceBook page, or website.

Judy Jacobson spoke on behalf of Mutual Ground, Inc., which provides services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in southern Kane County and all of Kendall County.  She told guests about the difficulties families have dealing with these issues, and about the services Mutual Ground offers, including shelter and counseling.  Much appreciated donations were collected at the event.  Visit the Mutual Ground, Inc. website.

Robyn Prince Sutcliff, Yorkville Alderman and candidate for Kendall County Board, spoke about her campaign, and her vision for Kendall County.  Her plans include bringing the residents into their county government with both videotaped and conveniently-timed meetings, and building two-way communication between the voters and County Board.  Robyn is experienced at consensus building with local municipalities and the state and federal government representatives.  Most importantly, Robyn has been and will continue to ethically represent citizens, with the intention of creating a greater quality of life for all in Kendall County.  Visit Robyn's campaign website.

KCDW President Chrisi Vineyard welcomed guests and spoke about upcoming events, and important issues in Kendall County.
