Wildflower Walk Hosted by the Kendall County Democratic Women
The Kendall County Democratic Women hosted a Spring Wildflower Walk on Sunday, May 2nd, at the Richard Young Forest Preserve in Yorkville. Former Yorkville teacher, Jean Birch, had a gorgeous day to lead the group through the forest, while pointing out various native and invasive plants. Adults, along with families and children, enjoyed a lovely walk together. Along the way, Jean spoke about her experiences with Dick Young, the preserve namesake, and his commitment to green spaces. Walkers marveled at the natural beauty of the forest, including the huge Osage Orange tree, the drift of blooming Lily of the Valley, and moss, lichen, and fungus formations. Many photos were taken! A notable sighting was that of a domestic pet rabbit, apparently recently abandoned in the woods. The rabbit, which is believed to be a lop-eared mix, was spotted along the trail at the beginning of the walk. Because the rabbit was still around at the conclusion of the walk, a few of the Democrats returned to search for it later in the day. The timid rabbit was quickly found and rescued. Donations to the Kendall County Food Pantry were accepted at the walk. EMail KCDW President Chrisi Vineyard for more information kendalldemwomen@kendalldemnet.com.
